BBC Sport suggests that Audi would like Allan McNish to return to sportscar racing if he has no F1 drive in 2003. Jordan, Jaguar and Minardi are understood to still be on the hunt for drivers for next season.

McNish won the Le Mans 24 Hours race in 1998 and Audi who's cars have been winners for the last three years. Wolfgang Ullrich told Motorsport News  "He is one of our first choices for next year and he would fit into our team very well.  He is a very special guy, a good ambassador and an excellent driver."

Allan has said that a return to Sportcars would suit him down to the ground.  "I have always enjoyed racing sportscars and they have been very, very good to me.  I am very confident about my future but I can't tell you what it will be." He said.

"I could go to America but I would prefer to stay here (in F1) as long as I can be sure of getting a competitive drive.  I'm talking to more than one team and I'm optimistic I'll be able to get the drive I'm looking for. I'll be far better next year, knowing all the circuits."

Whatever Allan's options are for 2003, we wish him all the best in all he does and achieves.
