Michael Rutter returns to the Isle of Man TT

After a break of over six years, Michael Rutter has confirmed that he will indeed return to the Island this year to compete in the Superbike, Senior and 600cc Supersport races, aboard factory-backed Kawasaki machinery for his MSS Kawasaki team.

Michael last competed at the TT in 2000, but has been unable to compete during this time - whilst taking part in the British Superbike series he was unable to return due to contractual reasons.

His first appearance was in 1994, and his last win was in 1998, in the Junior 600cc class. During the period of 1994 and 2000, Michael has attained nine podium finishes, and is rated as one of the world’s finest road racers - having regularly competed very successfully with numerous wins in the Macau Grand Prix and the North West 200 road races.

Speculation that Michael was to return to the Island has been rife since his departure from last year’s British Superbike sponsors Stobart, and him joining the MSS Kawasaki Team, who have a longstanding relationship with the Manx Grand Prix - as well as being sponsors of the TT.

Michael said, “Everyone is aware how much I love the TT and what it means to me. My father is a previous winner and the TT is in my blood. It’s been frustrating not being able to compete over the past few years. The speeds have moved on over that period, and I am under no illusion how difficult the task will be. I am confident in my own ability, and hopefully will be on the podium - both the team and I are very serious about what is to be expected, and we have a good package put together.”

In its centenary year, the TT will be awash with a top class field of riders - with everyone hoping to break the stronghold that John McGuinness has held over the past few years.
