Disappointing weekend at Cadwell for Guy Martin

Guy Martin endured a difficult and disappointing Bank Holiday weekend at Cadwell Park, where he was participating in the latest round of the British Superstock Championship.

Although riding at his local circuit, it was actually the first time in four years that the Kirmington rider had ridden there, and he struggled to get the Barron Transport Suzuki to handle around the undulating 2.18-mile circuit.

His cause was unaided by a spill at Park Corner in free practice, and the team were playing catch-up for the rest of the meeting as they strived to find a race set-up. Despite numerous alterations, 23rd in qualifying was definitely not on the agenda, but Guy got a blinding start in the 15-lap race and was holding onto a comfortable 13th place, and looking good for some more championship points, before he pulled into the pits on lap eight.

It was a dejected Guy that commented on his return to the pits: “This weekend has been nothing short of a disaster for me, and I’m very disappointed. I was extremely hopeful of getting a good finish in the points, but no matter what we tried we just couldn’t get a set-up that would suit the short circuit style of racing. Obviously, we lost a bit of time due to the crash, which didn’t help matters, but I had no confidence in the front end all weekend, and it felt like the bike was going to throw me off at every single corner.”

“In the end I decided to pull into the pits, as the last thing I wanted was to have another fall. On hindsight, it may have been beneficial to do a track day prior to the meeting in order to have had the bike ready to go when practice started. It’s a shame for everyone involved with the Barron Transport team that we couldn’t get a result here, so we’ll have to mark it down as a character building weekend, and I’ll look forward to getting a good result when I next ride the bike for them at Macau.”

Guy returns to Southern Ireland for his next meeting, when he will be back in the Uel Duncan Racing colours at Dundalk this weekend.
