Thompson for Xpress at Oulton; Dave Johnson to BSB

Xpress Racing are pleased to announce that for their local round at Oulton Park they will be running young Irishman, Stephen Thompson. Regular rider Dave Johnson has been offered a unique opportunity to run in the Superbike class at the 11th round of the British series this weekend at Oulton.

Nigel Broomhall, Team Principal of Xpress Racing, received a call from Enzo DiClementi earlier this week offering Dave the opportunity to run on board the Dienza backed Kawasaki squad. After some brief discussions, it was agreed that this was an offer that could not be passed up, and a chance for the 22-year-old Australian to test his abilities on a Superbike.

The agreement between Dienza Performance and Xpress Racing was a mutual one, as it was seen as a fantastic opportunity for both parties involved. Johnson is eagerly awaiting the weekend, saying, “I was made up when I got the call from Nigel during the week and, after some discussions, it was decided that I should take up the offer. It gives me and also Nigel the opportunity to see how I go on a Superbike. It’s going to take a bit of getting used to, but a challenge that I am looking forward to, and certainly something I am prepared to work at. I like Oulton and got some good results last time I was there on board the Superstock bike. I hope I can get the team some positive results this weekend.”

Team Manager Nigel Broomhall commented, “I am very pleased that David has been given this opportunity, and I’m sure he will give it his best shot. Xpress Racing have worked very hard this year with David in the National Superstock Championship, and for him to be given this chance to show his abilities is fantastic. We are realistic about this weekend - however, the experience alone will be great for David. Enzo has assured me that he and the Dienza team will look after David, and I look forward to seeing how he gets on.

“We are also looking for success within our Superstock team this weekend, with the Irish rider Stephen Thompson. Stephen has been riding in the championship this year with some good times, and I was very pleased to be able to offer Stephen the ride on our Suzuki GSX-R1000 K5. Who knows what the outcome of this weekend will do for all involved.”
