Dragons Worst Fears Realised

THREE years ago I stood on the terrace at Rodney Parade listening to shouts of “Parker Pen, Parker Pen” aimed at Cardiff Blues. Three years later and more significantly three coaches later, Newport Gwent Dragons find themselves facing that very same perceived indignity of European club

.....rugby’s second tier tournament. This should be a case of what goes around comes around, sadly most of those spectators have probably deserted Rodney Parade by now, and it would be far too easy to kick the Dragons when they are down as much as they are now.

The writing has been on the wall for weeks if not months for Paul Turner’s side, when such a small squad lost momentum a month ago, and motivation with so many players being released.

Jason Forster one of the few men who clearly cares so much about the region, was no where to be scene on Friday night, callously culled by the regime at Rodney Parade.

That is the problem with generic Newport-Gwent outfit, so few, not enough care enough.

They need a master plan both on and off the pitch, but without even a chief executive they will continue to merely stutter along until something drastic happens.

Not one of their Eight new signing shows any sort of ambition, Turner will have to look harder for Welsh talent, but what matter is that they care enough to stop embarrassments such as the one witnessed on Friday night.
