After what has seemed to be a lifetime of pre-season friendlies and waiting for the 'real thing' to be begin, the Conference North returns on Saturday afternoon as RMI make the trip to face Vauxhall Motors.

Andy Nelson's side make the short trip to Ellesmere Port, the scene of an incredible 4-4 draw between the sides last season, with a mixed bag of friendly results behind them over the course of the season. A previously unbeaten pre-season campaign that took in a 1-0 victory at St. Helens, 1-1 and 2-2 draws with Clitheroe and Rossendale respectively, not to mention a terrific 2-0 home victory over Altrincham, came crashing to an end last weekened when FC United of Manchester left Hilton Park with a crushing 4-0 victory under their belts. As such, opinion is divided on how RMI are likely to perform in the league this season, with many predicting another relegation battle, while the more optimistic amongst us look forward to a play-off chasing campaign.

RMI have made a couple of impressive signings during the summer months, the most eye-catching being the recruitment of former Altrincham centre half Mark Maddox, who partners former Alty team mate George Melling in the heart of the RMI defence, while the likes of Will Ryder and Chris McDonough have impressed throughout pre-season.

Admission to the 2,500 capacity Rivacre Park, which is situated just thirty seven miles from Hilton Park, costs £8 for adults, £5 for OAP’s and students (upon production of a valid student card), and £3 for under 16’s, with programmes costing £2.

To reach the ground via car, use the M53 for Birkenhead. Leave the motorway at junction 5, before taking the A41 for Chester. At first set of traffic lights, turn left into Hooton Green. Continue to the end of this road where you will come to a T-junction, turn left here and follow this road to the end. There is another T junction, turn right here and follow road for approximately 250 yards - there is a right turn here for Vauxhall Motors Sports & Social Club. Turn right here and you will see football ground immediately to the left of the Social Club. Plenty of parking is available directly outside ground and to the rear of the Social Club.

If travelling by public transport, take the bus (658, 652, 593 or 600 services) in to Wigan town centre, or a taxi to Wigan North Western station (costing approximately £12). From Wigan North Western, take the train to Liverpool Lime Street, changing here for services to Hooton. Although this is the closest station to the ground, you will still need to get a taxi to the ground from the station.

Make the short journey and give the lads your support!
