Leigh RMI set for UniBond League tour!

Leigh RMI's slim hopes of a reprieve from relegation to the UniBond Premier League have been dashed after the Conference committee held their Annual General Meeting today in order to decide several outstanding issues in Conference North and South.

With Conference North side Nuneaton Borough going in to liquidation and therefore unable to compete in the league next season, it seemed likely that second bottom Vauxhall Motors would be saved from relegation.

However, it has been decided that Redditch United, who had been moved from Blue Square North to it's southern equivalent only a matter of weeks ago, will move back in to the Northern division and therefore Dorchester Town, second bottom in Conference South, will be saved from relegation.

RMI's local rivals Vauxhall may still find themselves in the Blue Square North next season if Boston United fail in their appeal against expulsion from the Conference, a scenario that may have seen Leigh saved from the drop before Dorchester's reprieve.

RMI, soon to move in to their dazzling new home at the Leigh Sports Village, have twice found themselves reprieved from relegation in recent years, surviving in Conference National in 2003/04 after Margate were ejected from the league, before avoiding relegation from the Conference North in 2005/06 because of Canvey Island's resignation from the Conference.

The news means that Leigh can now plan for life in the UniBond Premier League, where manager Steve Bleasdale will be hoping to provide a little more success for the club's loyal supporters.
