Leigh Genesis vs. North Ferriby United preview

Leigh Genesis are back on the road this weekend as they play a 'home' fixture against North Ferriby United at Hurst Cross, Ashton-under-Lyne in what is the first UniBond Premier League game with Lee Merricks in the Genesis hot seat following the departure of Steve Bleasdale.

With no less than nine first team debutants in the Leigh side for last weekend's 5-1 FA Trophy defeat to Cammell Laird at Victory Park, the appointment of Merricks appears a logical move after he moulded his young reserve side in to many of the current first team, albeit much earlier than planned.

Of the four established first team players that appeared in last week's game, goalkeeper Steve Dickinson and defender Josh Wilson have both joined Blue Square North side Burscough, although it is understood that other players are continuing to train with the club and therefore hopefully a strong side can represent the club in Saturday's game with North Ferriby.

The East Yorkshire outfit are currently in eighth position in the UniBond Premier League, although their last outing saw them crash to a 4-1 FA Trophy defeat to Chasetown, although their last league fixture resulted in a victory of the same scoreline at home to Ossett Town.

Saturday's game is to take place at Hurst Cross in Ashton-under-Lyne, home of fellow UniBond Premier side Ashton United. If travelling from Leigh, you are advised to leave the M60 at junction 23 (Ashton-under-Lyne) and follow the signs for Oldham on to the A635, A627, A670 and finally the B6194, with kick off at 3pm.
