Midfielders move on

Leigh Genesis have been hit with the disappointing, though hardly surprising news, that midfielders Chris Holland and Brad Maylett have moved to pastures new, with Blue Square North side Fleetwood Town taking advantage of Leigh's financial situation to swoop for the duo.

Holland only joined Leigh in the summer but has understandably moved to, not only a higher level of football, but also to a club that can pay the sort of wages that a player of his quality should be able to command.

The former Birmingham City midfielder made eighteen appearances in all competitions during his time with Leigh, scoring one goal in the 4-2 defeat to Whitby Town in September, though admirably his two most recent appearances came free of charge as he continued to represent the club on short-term voluntary basis.

Maylett, meanwhile, spent nine months with Leigh, scoring five times in twenty eight appearances during that time having joined Leigh from Northwich Victoria in February 2008.

On behalf of the Leigh Genesis Supporters Association, I'd like to thank both players for their hard work while playing for Leigh and wish them the very best of luck with their new club.

Both players have been terrific for us and decent blokes as well - wish them the very best of luck at Fleetwood.

Didn't particularly miss either of them today, Nathan Smith and Scott Sefton were both excellent in the centre of midfield!

Chris Page is a top defender as well, been really impressed with him.
