Leigh Genesis vs. Atherton Collieries preview

Should the weather be on their side, Leigh Genesis will be hopefully looking, at the seventh attempt, to play their Lancashire FA Trophy First Round tie with neighbours Atherton Collieries at Radcliffe Borough's Stainton Park home tomorrow (Wednesday).

After four aborted attempts to play the game, as originally drawn, at Colls' Alder House home, the tie was reversed to take place at Stainton Park, only to be postponed on a further two occasions.

With a league fixture at Bradford Park Avenue and UniBond League Cup game at Ashton United also falling victim to the weather recently, Lee Merricks' young Genesis side have been without a game since gaining a credible 2-2 draw at Whitby Town on 15th November.

The two sides last met, in considerably warmer weather, in mid-July when the two sides opened their pre-season accounts with a 5-0 Leigh victory in front of over 200 spectators at Alder House.

However, of the twenty three Leigh players that took the field that night, only Richard Chetcuti and Tim Dittmer remain at the club, with the former unlikely to feature through international duty with Malta Under 21's, while the latter returned to the club last month after a spell with Prescot Cables.

With dry weather forecast for tomorrow, it is hoped that the game can finally go ahead with a 7:45pm kick off at Stainton Park, with the visitors ironically earning a return trip to the same ground to face Radcliffe Borough in the Second Round.
