Leigh Genesis striker Richard Chetcuti is celebrating after he earned a call up to the Malta Under 21 squad last week, with the Leigh youngster training with the national side this week as he looks to earn a spot in the Under 21 side for their friendly with Denmark in February.
The 20 year old striker already has international honours to his name, having previously appeared for the England Schoolboys Under 18 side in the Centenary Shield against the Republic of Ireland at Crawley Town in April 2006.

Irlam-born Chetcuti has scored five goals in thirty seven Leigh appearances since his first team debut away to Vauxhall Motors in a Blue Square North fixture in October 2007 and qualifies for Malta through Maltese father Mario, a familiar figure on the terraces at both home and away Genesis fixtures.
Chetcuti has struggled with injury this season, making only six appearances, of which three were a substitute, but he has now returned to full fitness and completed fixtures in the Leigh Genesis reserve side, with his first team return prevented only by the recent run of postponed fixtures.
Should he impress during training with the national side, Chetcuti will be selected in the squad to face Denmark Under 21's on February 10th 2009.
On behalf of the Leigh Genesis supporters, may I wish Richard the very best of luck in his training with the national side and hope he gets selected to represent his father's country.
