Leigh Genesis vs. Hednesford Town preview

Leigh Genesis play their second game at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium tomororw afternoon when, weather permitting, high-flying Hednesford Town are the visitors.

Although Leigh has been largely frost and snow free in recent days, extreme weather conditions are forecast overnight and as such a pitch inspection has been scheduled to take place at 10am tomorrow morning to avoid any unnecesary journeys being made by visiting players and supporters.

Hednesford visit Leigh in the midst of a mid-season stumble that has seen them lose their past three games, albeit just one of them being a league fixture with a 2-1 home defeat to Marine being followed by a shock UniBond League Cup loss to Skelmersdale United before losing 1-0 at Blue Square Premier side Forest Green Rovers in the FA Trophy following an impressive run to the Third Round for Hednesford.

Genesis, meanwhile, were desperately unlucky to fall to the bottom of the league last week, conceding a last-gasp goal to lose 2-1 against Worksop Town at Radcliffe Borough's Stainton Park, having dominated the second period and come agonisingly close to claiming all three points.

Leigh's goalscorer last weekend was debutant Chris Thompson, a recent loan signing from Barrow, and he will be looking to build upon what looked to be a developing partnership with fellow striker Phil Marsh, with Karl Brown and Alex Cunliffe also offering an attacking threat from midfield.

Hednesford's last visit to Leigh was for a 0-0 draw at Hilton Park during the 2005/06 season, with the two clubs last meeting in April 2006 when goals from Scott Willis, Neil Smith and Andy Roscoe secured a vital 3-1 Leigh victory.

Having attracted more than 1,300 spectators to their recemt Leigh Sports Village Stadium debut against FC United of Manchester, Leigh officials are hopeful of another impressive attendance for tomorrow's fixture that kicks off at 3pm, with only the northerly section of the West Stand (all seated along the touchline) and westerly area of the North Stand (terracing behind the goal) being opened, with admission costing £8 for adults, £5 for students and OAP's and just £2 for under 18's. Supporters are reminded of the LSV Stadium's all-ticket policy, and therefore you need to purchase your ticket from the stadium Ticket Office, open until kick-off, before you go to the turnstiles.
