Leigh Genesis vs. Kendal Town preview

Tomorrow evening (Tuesday) sees Lee Merricks' Genesis side look to build upon Saturday's fantastic 4-2 victory away to FC United of Manchester when they take on Kendal Town in a UniBond Premier League fixture at Ashton United's Hurst Cross ground (7:45pm kick off).

After dramatically hauling themselves from the foot of the UniBond Premier League table with Saturday's thrilling victory, Genesis boss Lee Merricks is likely to keep faith with the side that won in such admirable fashion at Gigg Lane at the weekend, while visitors Kendal Town are also on a high after an amazing 4-1 home victory over promotion-chasing Hednesford Town.

Two players who won't be appearing at Hurst Cross for Leigh are Richard Chetcuti and Nathan Smith, who have joined Ashton United and Stalybridge Celtic respectively, with the likes of Chris Page, Richmond Botchey and Alex Cunliffe all impressive in unfamiliar positions on Saturday, while hat trick hero Phil Marsh and fellow scorer Chris Thompson did their burgeoning reputation no harm at all as their front line partnership continues to blossom.

Kendal players of particular interest are a pair of ex-Leigh players in defender George Melling and midfielder Lee Mulvaney, while midfielder Ian Kilford and player-manager Lee Ashcroft are both former Wigan Athletic players.

One player to look out for is striker Craig Hobson, who currently has nineteen league and cup goals to his name so far this season and, as an ex-Atherton Collieries man and former Bedford High School pupil, will certainly be looking forward to taking on his local team.

With the New Year fixture at Kendal postponed due to a frozen pitch, the two sides haven't met in over five years of action since facing each other in the final of the then-Lancashire FA Marsden Trophy, with Leigh celebrating their last piece of silverware with goals from Ian Monk and Ged Courtney securing a comfortable 2-0 victory at Accrington Stanley's Crown Ground.

Please note that tomorrow's fixture will take place at Ashton United's Hurst Cross, the second time this season that the Ashton-under-Lyne ground has hosted a Leigh 'home' fixture, in addition to January's League Cup defeat to Ashton United, and the upcoming league visit to Ashton on 7th March.

Season tickets are valid as normal for this game, with admission costing £8 for adults, £5 for students and senior citizens and just £2 for under 18's, with kick off taking place at 7:45pm.
