Leigh Genesis vs. Guiseley preview

The only way is up for Genesis on Saturday afternoon when they look to recover from Tuesday's 8-0 defeat to Nantwich Town when Guiseley are the visitors to Radcliffe Borough's Stainton Park for a 3pm kick off.

While Leigh couldn't be in worse form going in to the game, Guiseley have had a mixed bag of recent results with a 5-0 win over Skelmersdale United securing their passage to the UniBond League Challenge Cup Final before beating Kendal Town 3-2 last weekend, only to fall to a midweek home defeat of the same scoreline against Yorkshire rivals Frickely Athletic.

It is the first time in nearly ten years that Leigh have had a home fixture against Guiseley, the Yorkshire outfit claiming a 1-0 victory at Hilton Park in August 1999, the season that Leigh won the UniBond Premier League Championship and promotion to the Nationwide Conference.

With the departure of top scorer Phil Marsh to league rivals FC United of Manchester, Leigh Interim Manager Lee Doherty is likely to pair Dave Roberts with Chris Thompson in attack, although the latter will face a fitness test after struggling with injury in recent weeks.

The two sides last met less than a month ago when an early goal from ex-Leigh man Jerome Fitzgerlad put Guiseley on the way to a 3-1 victory, despite a second half Andy Heald equaliser for Leigh.

Kick off is at 3pm at Stainton Park, with admission costing £8 for adults, £5 for students and senior citizens and just £2 for under 18's, with season tickets valid for use as normal. Despite Tuesday night's result, the young Genesis side enjoyed terrific backing from the terraces; do your bit to ensure they have the same sort of support on Saturday afternoon.
