Frickley Athletic vs. Leigh Genesis preview

Former Blackburn Rovers captain Garry Flitcroft takes control of Leigh Genesis for the first time this evening when they travel over the Pennines to take on Frickley Athletic in a UniBond Premier League fixture.

After a spirited performance in Saturday's 4-2 defeat to Guiseley at Stainton Park, Flitcroft has his first chance to pass on his vast experience to a young Genesis side when they make the trip to West Yorkshire.

Like Leigh in their 8-0 defeat to Nantwich Town last week, Frickley fell to a heavy defeat to the Cheshire outfit at the weekend, losing 4-0 at Westfield Lane, though that only followed a 3-2 win over Guiseley last week, leaving Frickley seven points clear of the relegation zone in thirteenth place.

The two sides haven't met since early September 2008 when goals from Jordan Stepien and Jerome Watt secured a 2-0 Leigh victory at Stainton Park.

Stepien will be missing from the Leigh side this evening as his dual registration agreement with Burscough means that he will be appearing for the Linnets against Tamworth at Victoria Park this evening, with Chris Thompson facing a race to be fit to potentially partner Dave Roberts in the Leigh attack, while Raphale Evans will be hoping to make his Leigh debut after joining the club on a month's loan from League Two promotion chasers Rochdale.

Kick off is at 7:45pm at Frickley's Westfield Lane home in South Elmsall, West Yorkshire, with admission costing £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and £3 for juniors. The ground is a short distance from the A638, reached via the A1 from junction 33 of the M62.
