Leigh Genesis continued their pre-season preparations with a Saturday afternoon trip to the Lake District for what proved to be a particularly testing and worthwhile friendly fixture against UniBond Premier League outfit Kendal Town.
Genesis started the brighter of the two sides and thought they had gone ahead on twenty four minutes, only to be thwarted by the flag of the referee's assistant, who ruled that Chris Baguley was offside when he headed in a pinpoint right wing cross from brother Jamie.
Jordan Stepien came within a whisker of putting Leigh in front on the half hour mark when a free kick was flicked on by centre back Jonathan Smith, only for Stepien's point blank strike to be excellently saved by the goalkeeper.
Leigh did finally take the lead with less than fifteen minutes of the first half remaining when winger Jack Dorney went on a trademark dribble to the edge of the area before unleashing a superb strike that gave the goalkeeper no chance and left Leigh a goal in front at the half-time break.
However, that lead had completely disappeared when Kendal scored two goals inside the first two minutes of the second half, first when Danny Wisdom equalised with many of the crowd still enjoying a half-time break of their own, before Dave Foster headed past Stephen Drench.
The hosts had a lucky escape late on when Leigh struck the Kendal crossbar, only for the rebound to be cleared and the Cumbrian outfit hold on for a 2-1 victory.
Great match report agreed. How could he have done any report of the 2nd half when he spent it either at the bar, watching cricket, abusing Craig Hobson (makes a change from Melling) going back to the bar or standing?? Oh yes, all the things you aren't allowed to do at Stade de la Leigh!!
