Settle heads for Mossley

The squad plans of Leigh Genesis manager Garry Flitcroft have been hit with the departure of popular winger Steve Settle, who has left the club in search of regular first team football.

During two spells with Leigh, Settle scored nine goals in eighty six first team appearances, but after failing to make an appearance for Leigh so far this season has opted to join UniBond League First Division North rivals Mossley in the hope of securing regular first team action.

Twenty seven year old Settle originally joined Leigh from local North West Counties League side Atherton Laburnum Rovers in November 2006, going on to gain cult status amongst the Leigh faithful for his exciting attacking runs and hardworking attitude.

After just short of two years with the club, Settle left in June 2008 to join Witton Albion, but returned to Leigh a little over five months later in November 2008, going on to make twenty appearances for Genesis in last season's UniBond Premier League campaign.

A popular figure on and off the field, Settle leaves the club on good terms and with their best wishes. He will have an early opportunity to face his old club when Leigh visit Mossley on Saturday 12th September, with his debut set to arrive at Warrington Town on Friday evening.

On behalf of the club's supporters, I'd like to wish Steve the very best of luck with his new club and thank him for his efforts when representing the club. Given his association with the club, I'm sure it won't be long before he is back on the terraces as a supporter of the club.

Very disappointed to hear about this, though completely understandable. Dare say he'll be back playing for us at some point in his career!

Favourite memories of the ugly sod? Think his goal against Kettering, not long after he signed for us, will be up there, alongside his song-inducing performance that really did make Barrow look sheite. Anyone else?

All the best Ste lad.

I did'nt want to see him go, although his chances this season seemed to be restricted so it's understandable
