Carlisle heads for Leigh

Leigh Genesis manager Garry Flitcroft has swooped for a new signing ahead of tonight’s UniBond League Challenge Cup First Round game against Warrington Town at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium.

Bolton-born teenager Matthew Carlisle, who can play in defence or midfield, has joined the club from Bolton Wanderers, where he was a second year scholar in the club's academy, having been at the Reebok Stadium since signing schoolboy forms at the start of the 2001/2002 season.

Carlisle is the second Bolton academy defender to join the club inside a week, following on from last week's signing of Liberian-born David Gbemie, who made his Leigh debut in Saturday's 3-1 defeat away to FC Halifax Town.

Carlisle's first game as a Genesis player may arrive in tonight's cup encounter against neighbours Warrington Town at the Leigh Sports Village in a 7:45pm kick off. Admission costs £8 for adults, £6 for over 65's and students, and just £2 for under 18's.

I,ve seen this lad a few times for BWFC youth team and reserves, played left back in the games I saw and was very impressive, also tall enough to play c/b.

Good to see good YOUNG players coming to the club, pity about the other lad getting injured aso soon on Sat
