Leigh Genesis 0 Mossley 4

An experimental Leigh side crashed out of the UniBond League Challenge Cup at the Second Round stage with a heavy defeat to league rivals Mossley at Seel Park.
With Skelmersdale United visiting the Leigh Sports Village Stadium on Saturday in a crunch FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round tie, and a Lancashire Trophy fixture away to Ashton Athletic next Tuesday evening, it was very much a shadow Leigh side, with the likes of Dean Porter, David Gbemie, Matt Carlisle, David Hill and Dale Whitham all earning rare starts, while former Woking defender Patrice Mondon-Konan made his debut at centre back, with Romanian defender Ilie Ovidiu Morariu coming off the bench in the second half for his debut.
The first chance of the game fell to Leigh's Chris Baguley, who saw his shot saved by the legs of goalkeeper Peter Collinge after the ball had found him via a strong run from Matt Carlisle. However, just two minutes later Leigh were behind when a ball from the right hand side was poked past Dean Porter by Steve Moore, via Porter's right hand post.
Five minutes later and Mossley almost doubled their lead when Sam Walker cracked the crossbar with a strike from the left hand side of the area, before Leigh finished the half strongly when an Andy Heald strike flew inches past the post from a Chris Baguley cross.
Leigh were given a mountain to climb just five minutes in to the second half when Matt Kay failed to make any sort of clear connection when meeting a cross from the right, but made enough contact to deceive Porter and put the hosts two goals in front.
With fifteen minutes remaining and Leigh continuing to struggle to get a foothold in the game, Mossley went three goals ahead when Moore slotted in his second of the evening. The rout was completed four minutes later when Kay tucked away his second of the evening in to an unguarded net after Porter had spilled a powerful strike from the edge of the area.
