Flitcroft "made up" with Trophy draw

Leigh Genesis manager Garry Flitcroft has expressed his delight at being drawn against Redditch United in the FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round, and has called on the town to support his side.

Worcestershire side Redditch, currently occupying nineteenth position in the Blue Square North, are two leagues above a Genesis side that are seventh in the UniBond League First Division North, but that isn't a statistic that worries Flitcroft.

"The lads deserve it for the hard work that they've put in. I know they will enjoy taking on a team from a few leagues above because we have players who have appeared at that standard, and even higher than that."

Given his side's record of four victories and one draw from five outings at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium this season, including Saturday's thumping 4-1 victory over neighbours Skelmersdale United in the Second Qualifying Round, it's perhaps unsurprising that Flitcroft is delighted that his side will have home advantage on Saturday November 21st.

"I'm made up with the draw, and a home tie is perfect with our unbeaten record at the LSV this season. I just hope that the town turns out in force and gives the lad the support that they deserve, added to the already terrific backing we enjoy home and away."

The fixture with Redditch will take place at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium on Saturday 21st November with a 3pm kick off, with ticket details to be confirmed in due course. The victors will qualify for the First Round Proper of the competition, at which stage there is the potential of a tie with the likes of Luton Town, Oxford United and their Blue Square Premier rivals.

Before that, Genesis have county cup commitments to attend to when they make the short trip to Ashton-in-Makerfield to take on Ashton Athletic for a place in the Quarter Finals of the Lancashire FA Co-Operative Challenge Trophy in a 7:45pm kick off at Brocstedes Park tomorrow (Tuesday 3rd November) night.

make the ticket price a goo dprice and you will get people down, why not do if a kid brings an adult the kids get in for free, we need to find different ways of getting people through the gates, we have the stadium, we have the team, we got some support but we need more and these lads deserve it

With it being a cup game, such initiatives would have to be agreed with Redditch, not to mention the LSV. I think normal league prices would be a very decent offer, to be quite honest.

Without a doubt, but there is such thing are de-valuing the product as well by making it too cheap. There's only so much that advertising and cheap tickets can do by the way - it's up to us as supporters to drag along those lapsed or new fans who always say they will come to a game, but rarely do. Now is the time.
