Chris Baguley heads for Salford

Genesis boss Garry Flitcroft has been dealt a blow ahead of Saturday’s vital home game against Trafford with the news that top scorer Chris Baguley has moved to league rivals Salford City.

Baguley joined Leigh in June this year in a double signing with brother Jamie from FC United of Manchester, after previous spells with Oldham Athletic and Australian side Mandurah City.

Chris made his Genesis debut as a substitute on the opening day of the season, scoring within ten minutes of his arrival on the field in a 3-1 victory away to Rossendale United, whilst also finding the net on a his full debut, a 2-1 defeat away to Curzon Ashton.

Arguably Chris' finest hour came in the Lancashire FA Trophy, when he scored all of his side's four goals in a remarkable 4-4 draw with neighbours Atherton Laburnum Rovers as he leaves the club with a record of eleven goals from seventeen games, though ten of these appearances came as a substitute.

Leigh manager Garry Flitcroft expressed his sadness at Baguley's departure, but understood his reasoning after starting only two league games this season.

"Chris wanted regular starts. He is the sort of player that really needed that but unfortunately this could not always be possible with my current squad. I would have loved Chris to stay here but his decision is made and I of course wish him all the best."

Baguley will have to wait until January before he has the chance to take on his former club and brother Jamie when Genesis visit Salford on Saturday 30th January.
