Fixture clash forces venue switch

A fixture clash at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium has left Leigh Genesis with no option but to disappointingly announce that the upcoming fixture against promotion rivals Curzon Ashton on Saturday 16th January will have to take place at an alternative venue.
Leigh Centurions have a home friendly against neighbours Warrington Wolves at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium on Sunday 17th January, with the LSV Co deciding that this constitutes a 'fixture clash' and as such confirming that Genesis will be unable to play this vital fixture at the stadium.
Genesis spokesperson Mary Croasdale stated; 'The club regret that this match has been diverted away from our home ground, and we feel that this is unacceptable for our loyal supporters, especially our season ticket holders. We are therefore meeting with senior LSV staff on Friday to look at all fixtures for the rest of the season and are hopeful that a plan acceptable to all parties - LSV Co, LGFC and the UniBond League - can be reached.
To alleviate some of the inconvenience to our fans, the club will be providing transport from Leigh Sports Village to Ashton on the 16th which will be free of charge to season ticket holders and at minimal cost to others who wish to travel. Full details will be released shortly on the club's official website, www.leighgenesis.com.'

Should the weather allow it, sixth-placed Genesis will host third-placed Curzon Ashton at Hurst Cross in Ashton-under-Lyne, home of UniBond Premier League side Ashton United, on Saturday 16th January with a 3pm kick off.
Once again, the club offers it's sincere apologies to the club's supporters and would like to assure them that they are continuing to pursue a satisfactory arrangement with the Leigh Sports Village Stadium.
*Please note that Saturday's scheduled game against Rossendale United at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium is in severe doubt because of the adverse weather conditions. Supporters are advised to consult the club's website before travelling, with an announcement to be made as early as possible as to whether or not the game will be taking place.

Obviously very disappointing news, but hopefully tomorrow's meeting will finally see us make some headway.
Big well done to those concerned for having the nous to provide a bus to the game for our fans, though I'd like to think we'll have a few Ashton Utd fans turning out in support for us as well!

some things never change, well i wont be going not going to an away ground for a home game ever again, this will help curzon as they dont have to travel far, also if this was played at home it would be safe in saying 3 points would be on the card now i see nothing but a draw or loss

Not going to the game will not do anyone any good, will it? Why should your club and the eleven lads who play their hearts out suffer - if anything, it should galvanise everyone to get down there and give them support. And the factor of it being in Ashton was definitely considered, I can assure you, but there was literally no other option.

wont be able make it anyway got other commitments, there shouldnt be a fixture clash the rugby should know what dates the footy have there games, do it for another weekend

I agree it is disappointing that we have to play away again but we just have to get on with it and get the result.
Its very good of the club on putting on transport which saves me from driving aswell.

well we are gonna have to get on with it, cos it wont be the last time, its happening on a regular basis and will continue to happen, until the football are in a higher league and getting bigger attendances

I presume once the rugby season starts, everytime both teams are at "home" in the same weekend we will be shipped of 20 or 30 miles away again.
Had a feeling this would happen months ago when we had to play at Chorley to 'protect' the pitch

Don't blame the rugby; it was the LSV who will have said that the stadium is 'available' when their fixtures we're being drawn up. As the article says, there is a meeting with the LSV later today that will hopefully bring a bit of clarity (and common sense) to the situation.
