A former Stockport County trainee, powerful striker Richard Ratcliffe joined Leigh Genesis early in January 2010, making his debut as a substitute in a 3-1 win away to Colne in the Lancashire FA Co-Operative Challenge Trophy Quarter Final.
Ratcliffe had been training with the club for a number of weeks, but was unable to make his debut because of a number of postponements being added to a delay in receiving international clearance having last played for Swedish club Ytterhogdals IK.
Ratcliffe's league debut came on Saturday 13th February 2010 in a 2-0 home win over Clitheroe at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium. His first league goal arrived four days later, scoring the opening goal in a 4-3 win over Rossendale United at Victory Park on Wednesday 17th February 2010.
After scoring one goal in fifteen appearances, Ratcliffe left the club in the summer of 2010.
