Healdy steps up to coaching staff

New Leigh Genesis manager Mark Maddox has taken the first step towards building his coaching line-up for the new season with the appointment of veteran midfielder Andy Heald as player-coach.

Having made one hundred and six appearances during three spells with the club, Heald has been a familiar face for the past nine years since joining Leigh in the Nationwide Conference in 2001.

During that time, the twenty nine year old midfielder has built up an extensive range of contacts throughout the local non-league scene that could prove invaluable to Maddox's team building for the 2010/2011 season.

Whilst successfully forging a career on the field, Heald has always kept an eye on the coaching side of the game, working full-time as a junior sports coach and looking to extend his opportunities at the end of his playing career by obtaining a UEFA B coaching licence.

Heald will assist Maddox in both coaching and recruitment, along with providing vital experience in the centre of Leigh's midfield as he continues his playing career.

What did surprise me, and he'll hate me for saying this, but was surprised to notice he only turns 30 next month...I just can't remember him looking any younger than about 45, even when he first signed for us (Sm100)
