Trafford vs. Leigh Genesis preview

Monday evening brings about one of those footballing rareities, with two sides from the same league facing each other in a pre-season friendly fixture, less than a fortnight before the start of the new Evo-Stik League Division One North campaign.

Genesis boss Mark Maddox takes his side on the short trip to the Manchester suburb of Flixton, thirteen miles away from Leigh, to take on league rivals Trafford at their Shawe View home.

The sides last met at Shawe View as recently as March this year when Genesis ran out 2-0 winners in a league fixture thanks to two goals from Jordan Stepien, including an injury-time penalty.

With both clubs having faced the cancellation of previously arranged pre-season games, Maddox was keen to jump at the chance of getting an extra warm up fixture to ensure his side are as well prepared as possible for the new season.

Having made recent trips to the Wirral and North Wales, it means a pre-season friendly a little closer to home ahead of the final warm-up game at Ossett Town on Saturday (14th August, 3pm) before Curzon Ashton are the first visitors of the season to Crilly Park the following Saturday (21st August, 3pm).

Kick off is at 7.30pm, with the ground situated close to junction ten of the M60 (Trafford Park), adjacent to the William Rowe golf course.
