Warrington Town vs. Leigh Genesis preview

Leigh Genesis make the short trip to neighbours Warrington Town this evening in search of their third consecutive victory after recent wins in league and cup.

After Rick Gleave’s ninety-sixth minute goal saw Genesis overcome two men being sent off to win 4-3 in their FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie at Rossendale United, Leigh turn their attention back to Evo-Stik League Division One North action, with their last league outing bringing a 1-0 home win over Garforth Town last week.

Genesis boss Mark Maddox was pleased with Saturday’s win, despite the late nature of the victory.

“I thought we were very professional with our approach on Saturday, and we got our just rewards in the end. I was disappointed with the manner of the red cards and, had we kept eleven men on the field, I’m sure we’d have won more comfortably.”

“I could not fault the lads for effort and, even if we would have drawn, I think everyone would have been proud of them.”

Looking ahead to this evening’s game, Maddox recognised the need to maintain his side’s current run of good results, whilst also had some team news ahead of the Cantilever Park clash.

"At Warrington tonight we just have to keep doing the right things and keep up the good momentum we've gained over the past few games. Tom Obasi is back in contention after being away on international duty with the Great Britain Futsal side, but Nick Eastham is out with hamstring problems."

The last meeting between the sides came in January of this year when both sides drew a blank in a 0-0 draw, though Leigh did have a ‘home’ fixture at Cantilever Park in March of this year prior to the club’s move to Crilly Park in a 0-0 draw with Curzon Ashton.

If travelling from Leigh, follow the A579 Winwick Lane from the East Lancashire Road until reaching the centre of Warrington, turning on to the A50 Knutsford Road at Warrington New Bridge, following the road until you reach Wash Lane with the ground immediately in front of you.

Kick off at Cantilever Park is at 7.45pm, with admission costing £7 for adults, £4 for concessions and free entry for children aged under twelve years.
