Witton Albion vs. Leigh Genesis preview

Leigh Genesis travel to Cheshire on Saturday in the hope of returning to winning ways after Tuesday's injury time defeat to neighbours Warrington Town ended a run of two consecutive victories.

Having scored a 96th minute winner to defeat Rossendale United in an FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie last weekend, the tables were turned on Mark Maddox's side in midweek when Tony Evans scored in the 92nd minute to consign Genesis to a 2-1 defeat, with the visitors having thought they'd done enough to grab a point when Kieran Molyneux's 85th minute winner had equalised a first half opener from ex-Leigh man Gavin Salmon.

Maddox has no fresh injury worries from that game, with only Nick Eastham an injury doubt with a hamstring injury picked up after scoring two vital goals at Rossendale last weekend, with winger Tom Obasi back in contention after appearing as a substitute on Tuesday evening on his return from international duty with the Great Britain Futsal side.

Hosts Witton have made a bright start to the season with three wins, two draws and just one defeat from their opening six games, leaving them in sixth position just two points behind second-placed Chester.

The last meeting between the sides saw Witton run out 2-1 winners in a pre-season friendly in July 2009, with Leigh’s last competitive visit to Wincham Park bringing a 3-1 win in the UniBond Premier League in October 2008 thanks to goals from Jordan Stepien, Brad Maylett and Tom Field.

Kick off is at 3pm at Wincham Park, with admission costing £8.50 for adults, £5.50 for over 65’s, £4 for students and 14-16 year olds and entry free of charge for under 14’s. To reach the ground, leave the M6 at Junction 19 and take the A556 Chester Road towards Northwich. After 3 miles, get into the right hand lane and filter off to the right at the 'triangle' road junction. At the traffic lights go over to the left which is Manchester Road (still the A556). After 1 mile turn right into the A559 Hall Lane. After 0.5 mile turn left into Wincham Lane (the Black Greyhound Pub is on the opposite side of the road). After 0.5 mile Wincham Lane becomes Chapel Street, you will go over a hump backed bridge over the canal and the turning into the stadium is on the left.
