Leigh Genesis vs. Salford City preview

Saturday afternoon sees Salford City make the short trip to Crilly Park for a league meeting with Leigh, with both sides looking to build on a successful midweek and earn back-to-back victories.

Visitors Salford saw Darren Quick resign from his position as manager at Moor Lane, though he retained his position as chairman and immediately installed Rhodri Giggs as the club's new manager, albeit on a trial basis for a month. Giggs, brother of Manchester United legend Ryan, had the perfect start to his reign, even going as far as scoring a goal himself in a stunning 4-0 home victory over Durham City, their first league win since late August after suffering a series of heavy defeats.

Leigh, meanwhile, made the long midweek trip to Harrogate Railway Athletic, under pressure to improve their discipline after three players were given their marching orders in last weekend's FA Trophy exit to Garforth Town. What followed was the perfect response from Maddox's side, who collected just one booking following a clumsy Danny Lyons challenge and showed a vastly improved performance as a result, going on to earn a vital three points from a 1-0 win thanks to a terrific Paul Hopkins half-volley with just three minutes remaining.

With several players suffering from illness in midweek, Maddox will be hoping to choose a side similar to Tuesday's victory, with his selection options boosted after Jordan Gerrard made a long-awaited return from injury to make his competitive debut for the club as a second half substitute.

A trio of former Leigh players could be lining up in the Salford side in the shape of left back Alex Mortimer, who made fourteen appearances during the 2008/2009 season, and brothers Chris and Jamie Baguley, who made a total of forty seven Leigh appearances between them last season, with Chris weighing in with twelve goals in eighteen games and Jamie with seven strikes in twenty nine.

The last meeting between the sides was a particularly controversial one when Leigh ran out 2-1 victors at Chorley's Victory Park in the penultimate game of last season with a Jack Dorney penalty and Leroy Chintengah strike coming in stoppage time to seal a late win.

Kick off at Crilly Park is at 3pm on Saturday, with admission costing £7 for adults, £5 for over 65's and students and just £2 for under 18's, with season tickets valid for use as normal.
