Leigh Genesis vs. Clitheroe preview

Crilly Park hosts it’s second Leigh Genesis game inside a week on Saturday afternoon when Clitheroe are the visitors for the second of three consecutive home games for Mark Maddox’s side as they look to haul themselves from the foot of the Evo-Stik League First Division North.
While Leigh have struggled in recent outings, culminating in Tuesday’s disappointing 3-1 home defeat to basement rivals Cammell Laird, visitors Clitheroe are riding high in fifth position in the league, though level on points in joint-second with Skelmersdale United, Chorley and Curzon Ashton after an impressive 2-1 win away to Bamber Bridge on Tuesday evening, extending their unbeaten away league run that has stretched to six games since a 3-0 defeat to Cammell Laird in early September.
The Clitheroe side features a couple of faces who will be familiar to Leigh fans in the shape of striker Mark Jackson and midfielder Gavin Lee-Ellison who both represented Leigh in the Conference North a few years ago, while former Daisy Hill and FC United of Manchester winger Danny Williams, a former Lowton High School pupil, will be facing his local club.
The last meeting between the sides came only a matter of days after Clitheroe had come out on top in an encounter between the two at Leyland’s County Ground in the Lancashire FA Trophy Semi Final, with Genesis gaining just revenge with a 2-0 league victory at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium. First half goals from Jack Dorney and Tom Ince gave Leigh the victory, who finished with ten men after the seventy-sixth minute sending off of defender Karl Munroe, though only Andy Heald, Scott Sephton and Chris Dykes remain at the club from the Leigh line up that day.
Genesis boss Mark Maddox is hopeful of having a couple of new faces in his side in time for the encounter, with any additions a timely boost to his squad with Paul Williams already ruled out and both centre back Adam Farley and broken nose victim Andy Heald unlikely to take part.
Kick off at Crilly Park on Saturday is at 3pm, with admission costing £7 for adults, £5 for over 65’s and students and just £2 for under 18’s, with season tickets valid for use as normal and match day programmes available at the turnstiles for just £2 each.
