Leigh Genesis vs. Witton Albion preview

Tuesday evening sees Leigh Genesis back in action when Witton Albion are the visitors to Crilly Park for a vital Evo-Stik League First Division North encounter.

After Saturday’s trip to Garforth Town fell foul of the weather, Genesis boss Alan Kershaw will be looking to build on the quality of his side’s performance in the recent 1-0 home defeat to Wakefield, while he is hoping for a new face and the return of Andy Heald and Nick Eastham to boost his squad.

Though a free Saturday will have provided a rest for his charges, Kershaw isn’t convinced of any benefits from having another game fall victim to the weather.

"It's always difficult when a game gets postponed as we need the boys to play as much football together so they get to know each other better. We have a lot of new and young players in the squad."

"The squad had the Saturday off, it was obviously difficult to organise a training session at such short notice. It would have been ideal to have a training session to work on the system we are playing. Again we will aproach Tuesday's game as we would have done on Saturday and that is to put the opposition under pressure as much as we can."

Visitors Witton Albion also had a free weekend as they too suffered a Yorkshire postponement after they were originally scheduled to visit Wakefield, with their last outing seeing a heartbreaking 4-3 home defeat to AFC Fylde, with the visitors scoring an eighty ninth minute winner at Wincham Park, leaving Albion in ninth position in the league.

Kick off at Crilly Park is at 7.45pm, with admission costing £7 for adults, £5 for over 65’s and students and just £2 for under 18’s.

Hoping Witton will bring a few with them to swell the coffers and a bit of vocal competition - let's make sure we're right behind the lads again tomorrow.

Believe we're playing a 3-5-2 again tomorrow night - it worked well against Wakefield so hopefully the same again tomorrow (and we play downhill second half). Those who are eagle-eyed on either website might have noticed a new striker who should be playing tomorrow night.

He did well for Stoke's reserves when he was younger and my sources tell me he's been looking good in training, so fingers crossed he does well.

It'll still want sticking in the net. Be interesting to see whether Asgari or Eastham plays up front with him though.
