Leigh Genesis vs. Chester FC preview

Arguably the most highly-anticipated fixture of Leigh's season arrives on Tuesday evening when league leaders Chester FC, born out of the ashes of former Football League club Chester City, are the visitors to Crilly Park for an Evo-Stik League First Division North encounter.

The two sides last met in October when a crowd of over 2,100 witnessed Leigh grab a dramatic point from the Exacta Stadium meeting with an injury time equaliser from Rick Gleave to snatch a 1-1 draw. That particular point had a lot to do with the performance of goalkeeper Adam Judge, who has ironically since left Leigh to join Tuesday's visitors and will be making his first return to Crilly Park, albeit unlikely to be in Chester's starting eleven with Richard Whiteside currently occupying the number one jersey.

Chester boast another couple of ex-Leigh players in the shape of midfielder Tom Field, who made twelve Leigh appearances during the 2008/2009 season, and striker Chris Simm, who began his career as a youngster with Leigh in the Conference in 2004 and is guaranteed to receive a warm reception from the home supporters, even several years since departing his hometown club.

After seeing their scheduled game away to Clitheroe being postponed because of a frozen pitch, Alan Kershaw's Leigh side had a free weekend after last week's enthralling 3-2 home win over Trafford, while Chester will be having their first run out in ten days since a thumping 6-0 home victory over struggling Ossett Albion.

Ali Asgari and defender Steve Brockley will both miss out for Leigh through injury, though striker Nathan McDonald doesn't begin his one game suspension for another week following his red card in the win over Trafford, meaning he can continue his partnership alongside brother Marvin in attack that started so encouragingly in last week's Crilly Park victory, while veteran Phil Priestley will continue in goal.

Kick off at Crilly Park is at 7.45pm, with supporters advised to arrive as early as possible to help to alleviate queues at the turnstiles with admission costing £7 for adults, £5 for over 65's and students and just £2 for under 18's, with season tickets valid for use as normal. The match will be preceeded by a minute's silence for Chester FC director Richard Wightman, who sadly passed away at the weekend.

The brand new LGFC beanie hats (£5 each) will be on sale from the 'Mega Table' before the game along with LGFC-branded mugs (£4 each) and ties (£8 each) and the evening's matchday programme which is priced at just £2 and sure to be in high demand, with the club ensuring a much higher number of copies have been ordered than normal.
