Wheatcroft falls through Patterson's grasp

Paul Wheatcroft has signed for Leigh RMI's Confrence rivals Southport to deny earlier rumours that he would sign for the Railwaymen.

Southport manager Phil Wilson has beaten RMI manager Mark Patterson in signing former Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers striker Paul Wheatcroft, just released from Scunthorpe United.

After a unsuccesful five months at Glanford Park, 22 year old Wheatcroft has signed for Southport to try and help for their push for the play-offs, after they lost five of their last seven games.

RMI could of done with Wheatcroft to bring in some goals to help in their Conference relegation battle. He is a very experienced player and would've influenced the team very much, not to mention become a perfect strike partner for the injured Dino Maamria.

Mark Patterson will now have to wait to make his second signing at the club. RMI who play Vauxhall Motors at the weekend in the F.A. Umbro Trophy will be looking for for there first win in seven games and a long and successful cup run. Then Patterson will be looking to add to his small squad.
