A second half goal from Chris Simms capped off an impressive performance from RMI to give them a one goal victory over a decent, albeit youthful, Everton side at Hilton Park this evening.

With the Everton first team on tour in the United States of America, a youthful side turned out for the Toffees in front of 415 supporters at Hilton Park, but their lack of experience certainly didn't mean they had a lack of ability, and they certainly showed some excellent play with several players who are destined for a bright future on Merseyside.

However, it was RMI who dominated the encounter, with long periods of possession in what was a very impressive performance from the Railwaymen, with midfielder Warren Peyton particularly outstanding yet again, along with captain Barry Miller and trialist Clint Marcelle.

Despite their long periods of possession, however, RMI failed to create many clear cut chances in a fairly even first half, with former Mansfield striker Craig Mitchell having the best chances, along with a decent left-footed free kick from Warren Peyton, with the visitors rarely threatening Ian Martin's goal.

The second half followed much the same pattern, with initially the best chance falling to the Everton striker, who was foiled by an excellent save from Martin, who blocked the ball on the line from point blank range with his legs.

Steve Smith had a terrific chance when one-on-one with the Everton goalkeeper after being put through by an excellent pass, but unfortunately his shot was blocked by the goalkeeper despite the odds being stacked in the favour of Smith when running on goal. His error didn't matter only a few minutes later though when Simms fired the ball home to give the hosts the lead.

Simms could've then scored another two goals at least, shooting only inches wide before having a shot saved.

All in all, RMI fully deserved their victory and played some excellent football, something that can only provide optimism for the new season as their new-look side aim to make an impression on the rest of the Conference.
