Jail for ex-RMI star

Ex-Leigh RMI star Mark Ward has been jailed for a total of eight years after admitting being in possession of cocaine with an intent to supply the Class A drug.

Ward, who spent two spells at Hilton Park both as a player and on the club's coaching staff having previously played for Premiership football for the likes of Everton and West Ham, pleaded guilty when on trial last month after 4kg (9lb) of cocaine were found during a raid at a house in Prescot in May, and was today sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court.

Ward denied owning the quantity of drugs although he admit that he knew they were on his premises.
