RMI on the box!

Media coverage is much like a bus for RMI - nothing at all for what seems like an eternity, before being featured twice on television within the past week.

RMI first caught the eye of the media recently when a remixed version of the 70's song "Thunder in My Heart", originally recorded by Leo Sayer, hit the top of the charts. It's a little known fact that since the ill-fated "Hilton Park '98" music festival nearly eight years ago, Sayer has been vice president of Leigh RMI. Thanks to the quick wits of several RMI directors and supporters who contacted the media with this information, there was a lengthy feature on evening news show "Granada Reports" towards the end of last week.

That was followed last night by RMI supporter "Phil the Cobbler" being featured on the "My North West" programme, again on Granada. Presenter Dean Sullivan, more commonly known as Jimmy Corkhill in "Brookisde", was shown around Phil's famous shoemaking shop on Railway Road in Leigh before being introduced to Hilton Park and the delights of following Leigh RMI.

Let's hope that this increases RMI's profile in the town and in the media, and is the start of better coverage and maybe even some increased attendances via curious viewers.
