Airdrie and Livi play out eight goal thriller.

1100 fans of Airdrie and Livingston saw eight goals, some fine attacking displays, some suicidal defending and a moment of complete and utter madness, if we got this every week then £15 would be well worth the asking price!

Every point counts for Airdrie at the moment and most fans hoped that we would win yesterdays match and in the early stages of the match it loked as though we would do just that.

Kenny Black chose to freshen up the team by playing John Baird and Joe Cardle from the start and the two players combined to give Airdrie the lead on eight minutes. Joe went on a mazy run and slid a ball through the Livingston defence for John Baird, he beat Roddy McKenzie in the Livi goal with a low shot and scored his first goal in the Diamond.

A second goal for Airdrie would maybe have settled the nerves and Livi's display in the first 35 minutes didn't warrant any thing more from the game. However that all changed in the closing minutes of the first half.

Leigh Griffiths who had pestered the Airdrie defence with his pace in the early stages of the game was left un-marked at the far post, his down ward header gave Livingston the equaliser. A minute later Armand One gave Livingston the lead, the same cross ball found One is space and his header gave Robertson no chance.

After leading for much of the half it hurt to watch Airdrie going in at half time 2-1 down.

Airdrie needed to lift their heads and get back in to the game quickly the first goal of the second half could  be decisive, unfortunately it went to Livingston. Armand One got his second of the match after he rattled home a volley from the edge of the Airdrie penalty area.

It seemed like the match was over, we've not fought back from being two goals down all season so we were expected to capitulate, that thought lasted three minutes when Joe Cardle sent in a cross that was headed home by Paul Di-Giacomo, could we get back in to this?

Four minutes Joe Cardle and Matt Hazely combined to lose the ball on the near side line, the Livi attack resulted in the pest Leigh Griffiths scoring his second by beating Stephen Robertson at the near post.

4 - 2 and Airdrie were in trouble, but if that wasn't enough Joe Cardle in an act of utter madness got himself sent of, when he ran 30 yards to remonstrate with team captain Marc Smyth, verbal abuse or assault it all seemed to happen in slow motion and referee Nicholls had no choice  but to show him a straight red.

The moment of madness had a strange effect on the team, they gelled and fought for every ball in a way I don't think we have seen this season. 

John Baird got his second of the game seven minutes later and whether the Livingston defence thought that the job was down and switched off or Airdrie upped the anti with the score at 4 -3 we were back in the match and going for it.

Two minutes later it was all square, Marc Smyth threw himself at a corner and headed home the equaliser.

 The remaining 25 minutes could have turned the match either way, both sides had chances and both sides were saved either by the lines man flagging for offside or some last ditch defending.
