Airdrie Vs Norwich

July 18 2009

Airdrie take on English Division one team Norwich City today in our only home pre-season match of 2009 - 2010.

For anyone unable to make the match against Raith Rovers last week this will be our first chance to see the team. The Raith game ended in a 2 - 0 defeat.

Our squad for 2009 – 2010
Goal Keepers
Stephen Robertson
Lee Hollis

No Change in the goal keeping situation, our POTY last season we know Robertson is a capable goal keeper and Lee Hollis proved he was a capable under study in the couple of games he started last season.

Defence
Mark Smyth
Bobby Donnelly
David Nixon
Paul Lovering

Again no change from last season, we know they are capable.

Midfield
MacDonald
McLaughlin
Waddell
Smith

Having not seen last weeks match against Raith, I just hope we are looking at a midfield leader because I still feel we are lacking dominant player here.
Attack
Watt
Baird
Gemmill
Lagana
Watt ripped the second division apart last time we were in the league and Baird is capable, Gemmill I will reserve judgment on until I see him play. Lagana I’ve heard is 6ft 2”  so maybe the foil we’re looking for.
Rumours
Adam Strachan & Willie McLachlan have booth been offered contracts but as yet have not accepted.

No predictions from me until I see the team play in a second division match.

Norwich have played two games in Scotland in their pre-season tour, Serbian Goran Maric scored the only goal in their 1-0 win over St Johnstone, in their frst match of their tour they beat Raith Rovers 1-0 Paul McVeigh scoring the matches only goal.

Balls! Check the midfield out(Sm147)

Surely we have to get a big strong dominant player in midfield, take out Scotty and we dont have much to say the least.

I'll go for Airdrie 0, Norwich something.

Need another 2 or so defenders to help competition for the places and have cover for injuries etc (we can't rely on U19s for long term ones, unless they're exceptionally good of course, we can't tell)

Also reckon another 2 midfielders (especially the leader type everyone wants). Think it'll be good if Strachan and McLachlan sign, that's one player in each category.

Any other trialists confirmed for today?

I agree with the Airdrie 0 Norwich something score.

Lagana is NOT over 6ft --- he is about the same size and build as MacDonald. In other words the signings we have made so far are Gemmill, Waddell and Lagana who will all fit into our team of midgets perfectly. (Watt, Baird, McDonald etc.). Then we have the possibilty of Strachan also joining our happy band of Lilliputians.
NO height and strength in midfield or in the forward line, same as last season !!!

Lagana had a good game today.

McDonald is still pish.

No Waddel or Gemmil in the team, or Strachan I'm sure.

Who were the 2 trialists?

I wasn't at the Raith game and was expecting it to be utter guff yesterday, wasn't as bad as I thought put it that way, the only thing that scared me was Lagana was on the right wing, had a decent game but always looked to want to come inside and get in on the action, please god not another season of a decent central midfielder played wrongly just to accomodate the ever increasingly frustrating KMac. (awaits the "Best player in the team" comments.)
