One of the main discussions on yesterdays bus was the need for a win as soon as possible, it didn’t necessarily need to be against Stenhousemuir in fact an away draw would have been acceptable, but a win was needed and the sooner the better.
Interest is growing in “Boyles Babes” and that is becoming obvious with the rise in travelling supporters, of the recorded 820 who attended yesterdays match, we think that more than 400 would have been Airdrie.

The Match
Stenhousemuir began the match the stronger of the two teams their experience and strength meant they had the ball for longer periods but they created very few clear cut chances.
The best chances of the opening period came from Ryan McCord, his first a free kick that narrowly missed and a header that rattled the cross bar.As the game began to pick up tempo the odd silly foul began to be given away and it was from a foul that McCord scored the opening goal.
From way-way out on the far side of the park McCord sent the free kick in to the penalty box. Every fan knows that sometimes you need a little bit of luck to win a match and if anyone had even got a glance on the ball it may have went anywhere, Brown in the Stenhousemuir goal also expected the ball to be diverted in some way, but it wasn’t and the goal will stand as a 30 yard screamer.
Our confidence grew for there, with Philip Johnston hitting the bye line and putting in several excellent crosses something we haven’t seen a winger do in many a year.
Another discussion on the bus was how much trouble Alex Williams would cause us; he’s one of those guys we always expect to score against us.

An early third goal would have sealed the victory for us and we may have gone on to score a barrel load but the Stenhousemuir defence held firm.
Watt came closest to making it three when a Devlin free kick fell to Watt in front of an open goal. Again the ball could have been deflected anywhere but it landed on rather than was hit by Watt and spun in to the keepers out stretched hands.
Jimmy Boyle made his first substitution Sean (I think) Burns replaced Ryan McCord, Devlin moved in to the middle of the park and Burns ran the wing on the left hand side.
Were there too many changes in one substitution or are we so reliant on the young and talented McCord already? Whatever the answer we lost our way a bit after that.
As expected Alex Williams opened the tally against us his header made it 1-2 and even with ten men Stenhousemuir were back in the game.
We really needed that third goal and even after William Lyle was sent off for a second bookable offence taking Stenhousemuir down to nine men Stennie with nothing now to lose kept trying for the equaliser.
On the 90th minute Gemmel sealed Airdrie’s first win of the season, a run from just outside the penalty box his shot beating Brown gave us a 3-1 win away from home.

i've always thought there should be talking points from the stories posted on the Stomp, that way it gives us something more to talk about and as has been said many many times it's all about opinion.
As Phil Johnstone was one of the guys mentioned I think he done a great job getting to the bye line but his crosses didn't always come off, not because he hit the first defender but because our forwards were suprised by it.
Anyone know?
