East Stirling 3 Vs. 0 Airdrie

Airdrie have now played four competitive matches we’ve beaten first division teams in Hamilton and Dumbarton and been totally embarrassed by Queens Park and tonight East Stirling totally destroyed us, both are from the Scottish third division and both teams had more fight, ability and desire than us. 

Jimmy Boyle changed three players from the team that started Saturday’s match against Dumbarton, Blockley and Lynch replaced Barclay and Donnelly, Donnelly was ruled out due to injury and Griffin replaced Warren who may have been carrying an injury from Saturday.

 In the opening 20 minutes of the game we looked the most likely to score John Boyle had a couple of half chances,  but like the Queens Park match he couldn’t find the back of the net after that, East Stirling found their feet and went on to dominate the match.

The first goal came after Airdrie team captain Lilley lost the ball in defence, Maxwell races forward and slots under Arthur.

East Stirling’s second goal came on 35mins the Airdrie defence were caught napping and Turner raced in, Arthur saved his first shot but the rebound was fired home.

As half time loomed the Airdrie support was totally disillusioned, spurred on by the team’s lack of endeavour the team were met with boo’s.

At half time Lynch and Cook were replaced by Di Giacomo and Jack Boyle for his debut. He should have asked to stay on the bench because although he tried to pull something together it’s hard when eight out of eleven players look as though it was past their bed time. Or simply couldn’t be bothered.

On 74 minutes Bain is replaced by Buchanan and Airdrie go three up front, it doesn’t help!

With 10 minutes to go Airdrie have their first shot on target……..yes I said it 80 odd minutes and our first shot on target!!! John Boyles shot is easily held by McWilliams.

In the dying minutes of the match, Herd makes it three nil after the Airdrie defence is caught standing around.

East Stirling deserved thier win and if the Airdrie team decide not to turn up again could they please let us know so we can save our money?
