Airdrieonians Wound Up!

By Stomp Admin
January 22 2013

The Airdrie and Coatbridge advertiser will be running a story tomorrow concerning the wind up of Airdrieonians Football and Athletics Club. Why now?

Much to my suprise it turns out that although put in to liquidation over ten years ago, the wind up order was finalised.

We believe creditors have been issued with letters inviting them to a meeting at KPMG, where the final documents will have the T's crossed and I's dotted.

I know no more than this and will be buying the Advertiser tomorrow for more details, if there are any.

Obviously just a technicality...nobody should get excited!

Remember a bloke from I think it was Peterhead or some place up there bought the name and history of Third Lanark for next to nothing.Even if the club cannot be brought back to life, we should at least own it's history. Would hate some supporter from another club to buy it--- you could imagine the pisz take.

I totally agree we should be looking to secure our name & history. If its something the club aren't pursuing then maybe the Trust should inquires.

Tory Boy is spot on - let's not assume the club will look to do this. Surely the Trust is the ideal group to take it forward.

Did the story appear in the advertiser? Any more details?

Is there any news in the Advertiser regarding the winding up of the club ?

Current balance of £632.89 but costs due to KPMG. I'm quite sure KPMG would be only too happy to sell the name, crest and history to recoup more cash for themselves.

I think the trust should put in an offer. After all The United Clydebank Supporters' Trust got the Clydebank name and crest for £1.

This is something the trust could win over many of the fans if done successfully. It has been talked about for years on here but talking is pointless with no action.

Can anyone on here get advice or information on how to go about buying the name etc? If the club or trust aren't interested I'm sure some of us on here would be willing to get together to both purchase and become the keepers of Airdrieonians.

Good news, keep us posted. Would the plan be for the trust to buy the name then sell to the club for free? if kpmg would actually sell the name and badge, history etc I'm confident the trust and supporters could raise enough to buy it

Is the Trust acting on behalf of the club? If not, then if they are successful they should hold the name etc in trust, pardon the pun, until such times as there is a genuine desire from the owners to preserve and protect the history of Airdrieonians. Would it then be possible to merge Onians with United ?
Haven't Rangers done exactly that ie merged the history and name with a new company?

Lets see if it can be done first before we make plans, with the deadline being today.....we will have to wait and see.

Is plan b to look into the possibility of registering the name and badge again? Apologies don't know how it works (eg does it go back into the public domain so to speak)!

I have no idea what would happen, initial discussions happened yesterday among the Trust Committee, hopefully we will have news for the Open Meeting.

KPMG should gift them back. After all they made enough money in the original administration. I am sure that the outstanding creditors wouldn't get much more out of any sale anyway.

You should spellcheck before you post - KPMG and gift in the one sentence ?

Frustrating we are only finding this out now. I presume at any point in the last decade someone could have made a nominal offer to buy the club's assetts, applied for SFA membership entered a team in the lowest level in Scottish Football and eventually merged Airdrieonians and United resurecting the clubs name and history.

Dont think its as easy in that AUFC got refused in favour of Gretna,so best just forget the name meantime,as it seems there is an unexplained monetary problem with it.
