New season, new league and the return of an old name,

Season 2013 – 2014 starts today, with a home fixtures, against Hamilton in the Challenge Cup!The Scottish Professional Football League has been launched to an under whelming response from fans. Then last but not least to the Airdrieonians, we are once again Airdrieonians, not just in heart and head but in name and badge as well.

This should be enough to get any red blooded football fans blood flowing! So why am I sitting in the house on a Saturday afternoon neither up nor down about the season ahead?

With the new/old branding comes some new faces to the ranks of the Airdrieonians –

Goalie Colin Stewart, centre halves Mick OByrne and Darren McCormack, midfielders Davie Sinclair and Martin Hardie, and new strikers Jim Lister and Lewis (the Flamingo) Coult. In the coaching staff fans favourite Paul Lovering has stepped in to replace Alan Lawrence.

We began season 2012 – 2013 with the reverse of this fixture, Hamilton away. In our opinion we were totally out played in that match, but a super sub wonder goal by Willie McLaren won the game in the Diamonds favour and in the end that’s all that mattered.

Here’s hoping for a great game in the Scottish Sunshine.

New season, new league and the return of an old name,
