Airdrieonians Stats for season 2015 – 2016

I think there was an expectation among fans that we should have made the playoffs at least, it was obvious from the start Dunfermline were going to win the league but the playoff spots were up for grabs. My own optimism faded very quickly, the disaster on the opening game of the season against Annan was enough to show me that there was potential but still something missing. 

Before I look at the stats I’m going to offer up what I think went wrong this season.

Loan players too many and not good enough quality.
The experienced players brought in didn’t live up to expectations.
Our reliable front pairing of Prunty and Lister were either ill or injured for a large part of the season.
Three managers in one season.
Playing one up front at home.
Terrible home form.

Some of the above could have been avoided where others could not have been foreseen.

The Stats.

The Cups -
League Challenge Cup – 1^st round eliminate by Annan
League Cup – 2^nd round eliminated by Rangers after beating Stirling in the first round.
FA Cup – two rounds beat Brechin in the first match eliminated by Dundee United in the next.

The League

Home record – 5 wins, 5 draws, 8 losses, (19 goals scored, 21 goals against) = 20 points
Away Record – 9 wins, 2 draws, 7 losses (29 goals scored, 29 against) = 29 points

Totals – 14 wins, 7 draws, 15 losses (48 goals scored, 50 goals against) = 49points in total.

If you attended all the matches during the season you would have seen

113 goals that’s 2.75 goals a game.
Only attend home games.
Each goal cost you £5.87.
Each point cost you £11.75.

In a season were expectations were already reasonably high, where the initial signings all looked to have the potential to see us move forward in the end finishing fifth is disappointing. With the announcement of full time football next season there will be very little room for manoeuvre we will need to make our mark in the division early and maintain it.
