The Broomfield Stomp season review of 2005 - 2006, we are going to leave it up to the fans and users of the site to decide whether this season has been a success or a failure, but here are the facts.

We will use this section to look at the Bells 1st division fixtures and results.

League Record 2004-2005

  Pld W D L F A GD Pts
Home Record 18 8 3 7 25 25 0 27
Away Record 18 6 5 7 19 23 -5 23
Overall Record 36 14 8 14 43 48 -5 50

When we compare last seasons final totals and league position to this seasons there is not actually much difference. Our home record this season is far better in respect of goals scored and our points total is better by two draws.

Our away record was better last season, to many draws away from home has proably been our main down fall this season. Seven draws and and eight losses on the road left us floubering in the bottom half of the table.

To be blunt, thank you Dundee for keeping us in the league if it wasn't for their pathetic showing against us we really could have been struggling.

Scoring & Conceding No. Rank
Goals For 57 1

Goals Against 43 6

Looking at the above chart it just shows how are defence let us down a little in the middle of the season, we are the top goals scorers in the division but were unable to convert those goals in to points.

Leading Scorers

Prunty   15  League goals
McLaren   11  10 league goals
McPhee   10  9 league goals
McKeown   7  6 league gals
Twigg   7  league goals

Top League games

It probably comes down to a few games,

Brechin at home:-  6 - 0 win
Dundee at home:-  7 - 0 win

My own though is one of our few away wins in the league Dundee Vs Airdrie a 3 vs 2 away win on boxing day. brian Prunty with his first heart trick in a Diamond.

Bells Challenge Cup

Another away day to Dundee saw us holding one of the pre-season favourites to a 1 - 1 draw, Brian McPhee scored our only goal in the match. We were finally eliminated after penalty kicks.

C.I.S Insurance Cup

Raith Rovers Vs Airdrie the worst possible start to a league campaign you can get, an away loss to a team in the second division. was this the way the season would go? We lost 2 - 0.

The Tennants Scottish F.A. Cup

Three game sin the cup who would have believed it?
Our first match against SPL Dunfermline was like being in a time warp, the never say die attitude once expected of Airdrie teams was back in abundance and in the best game of the season we beat them 4 - 3 away from home a fantastic victory.

The second match once against saw us drawing Dundee, this time at home. A game we should have won and progressed to the next round but it wasn't meant to be a 1 - 1 draw and a replay lay in the Diamonds future no matter how hard we pushed.

The replay, do I have to? It was a disaster from start to finish, where were the team that turned over Dunfermline, where was the team that forced a draw against the same opponents only ten days before. No one knew the answer to these questions and in truth in would still like to find out?
