August 12th Spirited second half performance by Morecambe after Town had the best of the opening exchanges. My man of the match Elam by a mile, looked like he wanted to prove something to his old club. Ran his socks off all night until the 85th minute. A constant problem for Morecambe- everywhere on the field. 1st Half 04 Davies lost grip of a cross, two clear chances for Morecambe, the second effort Thompson wasted over the bar from 6 yards. What a let off. 10 Town’s first corner Cullen put in a good one, solid header from Cameron beats everyone except a single Morecambe defender who clears the line. 14 Good Town build up releases Elam on the left, who lobs it goalwards keeper Mawson tips it over the bar. 22 1-0 G-O-A-L. Good cross from Mallon after good build up down the right by Elam, cross lands straight on Cameron’s head, beats Mawson easily. 27 Elam wins ball in midfield jinks past his marker, his shot produces a full length from Mawson. 32 Cullen blazes it left and wide of the goal. 33 Good shot from Morecambe’s Curtis, leaves Davies static, but his effort just edges wide. 34 Good cross from Killeen on right defies meeting two Town defenders in the box. 37 Sandwith shot easily saved by Mawson. 39 Cullen free kick, just over the bar. 43 A deep Free Kick is headed on nicely by Cameron, just eludes Elam. 45+1 Bushell long ball to Mallon, cross cleared for corner by defender. 2nd Half 45 Shot over bar from Elam, when he looked to have time to control the ball home. 50 Rigoglioso booked for diving in box from Garnett’s challenge. 54 Acrobatic overhead kick from Elam after cross from Price on the right, screeches past Mawson’s left post. No that would have made “Goal of the Season”. 70-83 Town’s Monington headed clear a series of Morecambe corners as Town start to feel under pressure for quit a spell. 79 Good work on right by Midgley produces a Town corner. 81 Good work by Morecambe’s Howell ends in a cross that Town’s defence clear. 88 Good shot from Parke after Mawson miscues his parry from Cullen’s free kick, cleared off line by defender. 90+2 Lucky let off number two, Perkins gets the ball unmarked in Town’s penalty area, shoots wide right, looked easier to score.
