Sakhir Testing Round-up: 24/02/2007
By Renault F1
February 24 2007
The ING Renault F1 Team today completed its week of testing in Bahrain. Heikki and Nelson both made good progress on their final day of work in Sakhir.
Building on yesterday’s work, they concentrated on car set-up and the behaviour of the Bridgestone tyres. Both drivers completed their programme without any problems, which was a positive sign, and showed good performance throughout the day.
After a total of 188 laps, they finished 5th and 9th respectively with best laps of 1:32.032 and 1:32.334.
Heikki used this week’s test to work on car set-up, but also to prepare for the forthcoming Bahraini GP, giving the young Finn a twin objective. He will resume testing next week, alongside his team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella.
This week, the team continued to make good progress with its pre-season testing, and is on target with its planned programme before the Australian GP in three weeks.
Between now and then, there is one more pre-season test session to come. A two-day break for the mechanics, engineers and drivers - then it’s back to work for three days of testing, beginning Tuesday, as they complete their final preparations for the new season. Expect a busy week!
