Gavin got a Goal

Please Welcome our latest match Reporter Douglas Black in his first match report of what we hope can be many and what way to make a debut for the match report with an excellent victory yesterday with Dundee continuing there excellent record at home.
Dundee had several changes from
their draw against Motherwell. The most noticeable one was that of Tom
Hutchison dropping out of defence and Barry Smith replacing him. Also included
was Giorgi for Mair in midfield and with Smith dropping back into his more
accustomed role their was a starting place for Gary Brady.
Dundee kicked off towards the
Bobby Cox and it wasn't long before the fans where out of their seats for a
poor refereeing decision. From a freekick on the edge of the box Hernandez
went for goal only for Mahood to block the ball with his arm inside the box.
The referee only reacted when shouts of penalty came from the stand but really
didn't punish Killie. He awarded a free kick right on the edge of the box and
left Mahood alone. To many though this was wrong. Hernandez took it again but
this time just putting it on the wrongside of the post. It didn't take long
though for the game to fall into a boring game. Killie where quite happy to
defend and hit on the break with Fulton pulling their strings in midfield.
Dundee relied on the pace of Novo whilst Fab and Sara just didn't look
interested at all. The midfield of Rae, Brady and Giorgi struggled against the
five man midfield of Killie but there was flashes from Giorgi as he ran with
the ball. On several occasions though he was caught in possession and it
looked like he was struggling. There was nothing of note really in the first
half apart from Dave MacKay's run. He picked the ball up from a pass from Fab
and he took on the Killie defence. After beating several players he broke into
the box and with only Marshall to beat managed to hit the ball straight at the
keeper.
As for the second half it
continued in the same pattern WIlkie had an excellent timing tackle in the box
when Smith was beaten for pace. Disaster struck though midway through the
second half. A Dundee attack was broken up and with a quick one - two Fulton
was away down Killie's right. He cut the ball into the on rushing Boutal,
suspiciously in an offside position, to knock the ball past a stranded
Speroni. Much to the disgust of the Dundee crowd who all thought that he was
offside the standside linesman gave the goal. This appeared to give Dundee a
shot in the arm. Duffy was quick to replace the tired Giorgi in midfield with
Milne and Dundee adopted a 4-2-4 formation. It nearly worked as Milne nearly
got onto a quick freekick just seconds after he came on. Finally the goal came
and it came from Rae who had blasted over minutes earlier. Taking a ball from
Fab he turned on the edge of the box and slotted it past Marshall into the
right hand corner. Several missed half chances later and Fab picked the ball
up on the edge of the box. Played a one - two with Brady and the ball broke to
him as Fulton tripped as he tried to control it. Fab one - on - one with
Marshall made up for MacKay's miss and slammed it into the corner.
To say that it was two points
gained for the 76 minutes of poor football was an understatement.
