| Early pace-setters Alfreton Town have taken the season by storm in the early stages,
proved by two 3-0 wins in the space of four days. Tuesday night saw the high flying Reds cut
through Frickley 3-0 and what could have easily been 6 or 7 had it not been for Mark Samways
superb display between the sticks for The Blues. Just days before Alfreton cruised to the
same scoreline to Phil Wilson's Lancaster City. Alfreton scored 106 last season have
already bagged 18 in their opening six games this season. The only problem with Alfreton's
suprise start is that they haven't applied or have the facilities for the Conference,
So The Reds can top the league this year and still only end up in next season's Northern
Alliance. They have certainly showed they have the support for the conference with an amazing
1,893 fans through the turnstiles already this season, thats an average of 631 fans per game.
Newly-relegated Southport have started brightly despite falling to Stalybridge on Tuesday, which up until that game they had'nt conceded a goal. The Sandgrounders are hoping for an instant return to the non-leaguetop-flight and with Ashcroft scoring in all but the opening game proves why they are the bookies favourites. Vauxhall have not had a dream start especially away from home, only picking up 1pt from a possible nine. Lets hope their away day blues doesn't strike again with their journey to the North East to face Blyth Spartans. Another dent to Motors' promotion hopes is lack of support for Vauxhall, a mere 347 fans through the turnstiles in the opening two games, while newly promoted Alfreton have had almost double that top an average home game. Alvin McDonald has already publicly stated to the football fans of Ellesmere Port to come and watch their local team, support is growing just not as rapidly as other clubs in similar situations. |
| Vauxhall next travel to the Butchers Arms looking for their first win this season away from Rivacre Park on Monday Evening,
before going to the North East on Saturday to take on high flying Blyth Spartans.
Motors' next home game is on Tuesday 9th September when Steve Aspinall will make his return to Rivacre Park with Altrincham. |
