The bidding war for Ruud Van Nistelrooy has begun - with United rejecting a £9million bid from Spanish giants Real Madrid. Reports suggest that Sir Alex Ferguson will not be moved on his £15million valuation of the player, but such a price tag could put off potential buyers.

Manchester United have turned down an offer from Real Madrid for want-away striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

The Spanish giants reportedly tabled an offer of £9million for the Dutch international, but Sir Alex Ferguson will not be budged on his £15million valuation of the 30-year-old.

"There is no agreement with Real and United over Ruud. We have refused their offer." confirmed the United boss.

The Galácticos will be reluctant to match United's high valuation for an unhappy player who is approaching the latter stages of his career. However, reports suggest the Red Devils will not budge on a £15million asking price and have not ruled out the possibility of keeping hold of Van Nistelrooy is a suitable offer is not received.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are said to be monitoring the situation closely and could be set to tempt United with a part-exchange offer as they look to freshen up their squad.
