United to Face Glentoran in Friendly

Manchester United will play Glentoran in a pre-season friendly next summer to mark the club's 125th anniversary. The 'Cock and Hens', one of Ulster's most famous football teams, once famously snubbed the services of George Best, labelling him "lightweight"!

Manchester United will play Northern Irish outfit Glentoran in a pre-season friendly next summer.

Sir Alex Ferguson has promised to take a strong-team to the province to celebrate the club's 125th anniversary.

United legend George Best once had a trial with the Belfast club; only to be told he was "too lightweight" to make the grade in football! Years later, with 37 Northern Irish caps to his name, he made an appearance in a friendly for Glens against United in the club's centenary year.

Glentoran are one of Ulster's most successful football clubs, having won some 22 Irish League titles and 20 Irish Cup crowns, whilst famously reaching the quarter-finals of the Cup Winners' Cup in 1974.

A date has yet to be announced for the game.
