Reading force a draw in the FA Cup

United should have had the game sewn up, but a series of missed chances notably by Cristiano Ronaldo proved costly as Reading cancelled out Michael Carrick's first half strike to take the tie to a replay.
Reading made seven changes but as Steve Coppell said afterwards they were still a side with many international players and a lot of experience. United rested some of their big names too and both teams now have to do it all again on Tuesday week at the Madjeski Stadium down in Berkshire.
Over 70,000 turned up to see what was an entertaining game, but a replay isn't what Sir Alex would have really wanted given the fact that the Champions League starts again this week with United going to Lille.
carrick's goal was a belter just before half time but one was never going to be enough and the reds just couldn't score another and Reading will be pleased to have another crack at United the week after next.
